Citing violation of UGC rules, Guv Khan sacks Calicut, Sanskrit varsity VCs

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has sacked the vice-chancellors of the University of Calicut and Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. He cited the violation of UGC norms and rules for his decision to remove the heads of the institution.

The governor is the chancellor of state universities. With this, Dr M K Jayaraj of Calicut University and Dr M V Narayanan of Sanskrit University will be removed as VCs.

The governor sacked the two VCs after holding a hearing. The governor sought UGC’s opinion regarding Open and Digital varsity VCs.

Though Dr P M Mubarak Pasha, the vice-chancellor of the Sree Narayanaguru Open University, submitted his resignation ahead of the hearing, Khan has not accepted it.
