The state government has received Rs 712.98 crores as contribution towards the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) till January 17 following the Wayanad landslide, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told the assembly on Thursday. He said that the amount so received is being utilised for the landslide-affected people. No assistance has been received from the centre yet.
According to the Chief Minister, the government hopes to receive aid from the centre based on the post-disaster needs assessment report ( PDNA). The centre has declared the landslide as disaster of severe nature and based on this declaration additional financial assistance is expected, Vijayan said.
“All available assistance is being coordinated and the government plans to complete rehabilitation in a time-bound manner. A meeting of sponsors was held, and a model of the township was presented in the meeting. The sponsors have assured all support for the project,” Pinarayi Vijayan said.
The state government will mobilise funds from CMDRF, SDRF, sponsorship, CSR funds and centre’s aid for the Wayanad township, as per the order issued by the Revenue department giving sanction for the scheme. The HC single bench recently gave the nod to the state government to proceed with the project, which aims to rehabilitate landslide victims.
As per the order, KIIFCON will be the project management consultant (PMC). A committee headed by the Chief Secretary will monitor the progress of the work and set up a quality assurance framework. The government has sanctioned Rs 15 lakhs for those affected by landslide who wish to stay outside the township. The proposal submitted by KIIFCON; 467 units on plots measuring 5 cents and 266 units on plots measuring 10 cents has been approved by the government at a proposed cost of Rs 632 crore. Tribal families will be allotted land either in the township or places near the forest zone subject to provisions of the Forest Rights Act, or they will be given Rs 15 lakh.
