Thrissur: A man was killed and another person was injured in an elephant attack in Chittattukara, Elavally here on Tuesday.

The deceased, Anand (45), a native of Alappuzha, was gored by the elephant while he was sitting near a paddy field with his wife. After the attack the jumbo turned towards Anand’s wife. However, she narrowly escaped.

Anand, an Ayurvedic medicine seller, succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to the hospital. The incident occurred at the Brahmakulam Painkinikkal Temple, where the elephant, Chirakkal Ganesan, was brought for a festival.  

The elephant turned violent while being bathed, first attacking its mahout before charging at another person. Later, authorities managed to tame the elephant in Kandanassery.
