Kannur: Sherin, the woman convicted in the high-profile Bhaskara Karanavar murder case, was released from prison on Thursday after being granted sentence remission by the Kerala government, officials confirmed.
Sherin, the daughter-in-law of the victim, had been serving a life sentence at the Kannur Women’s Prison and Correctional Home. Her release was based on a remission order issued by the state Home Department on Tuesday, following a detailed review of her case.
The decision received final approval from Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who endorsed the Cabinet’s recommendation to release her early. At the time of the order, Sherin was out on parole. She was officially released from the prison around 4 pm.
Sherin was convicted in 2010, along with three others, on charges including murder. The victim, 65-year-old Bhaskara Karanavar, had returned from the US and was living with his son’s family in Chengannur, Alappuzha district, when he was found murdered in his house in November 2009.
