Kanhangad: Neeleshwaram Kaatipoyil native Shashikumar who works at a college in Peringom and his wife Rajasree let out a sigh of relief after a miraculous escape from their car that was swept away by strong currents. The incident happened last night at around 8.30 pm at Chemmattamvayal Alayi road. The road has paddy fields on either side. After heavy rains lashed the area, the paddy fields were flooded and the rainwater submerged the road.
Shashikumar turned off ignition as soon as he realised that the car was being swept away. They swiftly informed the Kanhangad fire force and got out of the car. They waded through waist – deep floodwater to a safe point. The fire force personnel tied a rope to the vehicle and pulled the car out of the water. The couple was returning after seeing a doctor in Mangaluru.
The Fire and Rescue team led by assistant station officer KK Dileesh comprised of officers KM Shiju, Sudheeshkumar, Sudhin, drivers Ajith and Shahjahan, home guards Santosh and Balakrishnan. Besides, the local residents too had joined the rescue operations. Hosdurg police had reach the location to oversee the rescue.
