Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains to continue across Kerala in the coming days. In view of this, the Kasaragod Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Thursday.
The holiday applies to schools, colleges, professional colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, tuition centres, madrasas, anganwadis, and special classes. However, previously scheduled examinations will be conducted as planned.
Meanwhile, the IMD has declared an orange alert for the Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode districts on Thursday, predicting heavy rainfall in the range of 15 cm to 20 cm. A yellow alert has been issued in six districts, including Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Alappuzha, with a forecasted rainfall of between 7 cm and 15 cm. No alerts are in place for the rest of the districts.
The weather agency has also predicted the likelihood of heavy rainfall across the state until July 22. It has further warned of strong winds, with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph, likely to prevail intermittently over Kerala until July 20.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts till July 19. The public is urged to remain cautious, especially in districts under the orange alert.
