Kottayam: A theft occurred at the St John’s Orthodox Cheriyapally church in Pampady on Saturday. According to CCTV visuals, the thief entered the church premises around 11.30 pm and set fire to the church’s south-facing door. 

Upon breaking in, he stole money from the offering box. The church minister noticed the theft at 4.00 am on Sunday. Afterwards, the church management committee and police were immediately informed.

A dog squad and fingerprint experts arrived at the scene, and the authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage to aid the inspection.

Further investigation is currently underway. Parish Metropolitan Dr Youhanon Mar Dioscorus visited the church to assess the situation.
