Thiruvananthapuram: Local residents, fire force and police coordinated in rescue operations at Irinchayam where a tourist bus overturned at around 9.30 pm on Friday.

The residents heard a crashing sound and rushed to the scene. Irinchayam Sanal, a ward member of Anad panchayat said that he was on his way to SAT hospital with his son when he saw the bus pass by.

“My son was not well and I was on my way to the hospital when I saw the bus pass by and then heard a loud bang. We all got together and immediately started rescue operations,” said Sanal.

Timely intervention by the residents and fire force ensured that all the passengers could be shifted to Nedumangadu district hospital immediately. The patients were then referred to Medical college hospital. Eye witnesses said that the bus was speeding towards the curve where it lost control and overturned. 

The residents learnt from the passengers that most of them were family members. They have been visiting temples and were headed to Munnar when the accident happened. The bus was lifted using a crane and was shifted to the custody of Nedumangadu police.
