A special operation to kill the man-eating tiger in Pancharakolli, Wayanad, is set to take place on Monday. A 30-member special team led by Dr Arun Zachariah will venture into the forest on Monday morning, reported Manorama News.
Six additional teams have been deployed to secure the forest boundaries and track the tiger. The Forest Department suspects the tiger, which killed a woman and attacked a Rapid Response Team (RRT) member, remains within the Pancharakolli forest area.
Authorities have imposed a curfew in Pancharakolli, Mele Chirakkara, and Pilakkavu in connection with the operation. The curfew, which came into effect at 6 am on Monday, will continue for two days to ensure public safety.
The tiger attacked Jayasurya from behind on Sunday morning while he was searching for it as part of an RRT team. He defended himself with a shield, escaping with injuries to his right arm caused by the tiger’s claws. Although the RRT team fired at the tiger, it managed to flee.
Earlier on January 24, a woman was mauled down from the rear and partially devoured by the tiger while she was crossing a footpath through the forest. The victim, Radha, was caught and dragged by the tiger into the forest.
